Colli del Trasimeno

The wines belonging to the Protected Designation of Origin "Colli del Trasimeno", are produced in the following variants: white, sparkling white, white vin santo, white scelto, red, sparkling red, red novello, red scelto, red riserva, rosé and spumante classic method (both white and rosé). Then there are the wines with specific grape varieties: Grechetto, Merlot (also riserva), Cabernet Sauvignon (also riserva), Gamay (also riserva).


Grapes

The whites come from grapes coming from vineyards made up of at least 40% Trebbiano and 30% (minimum) Grechetto, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio. For the white wine chosen, an 85% of Vermentino, Grechetto, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon and/or Riesling Italico (alone or together) is prescribed. As for the chosen Rosso, where the law requires a minimum of 70% Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and/or Pinot Nero, as well as 15% Sangiovese. White spumante has 70% Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and/or Grechetto, while the rosé is made with Chardonnay and/or Pinot Blanc (50%) and Pinot Noir (50%). In all cases (except for the rosé sparkling wine), for the remaining part, other similar grape varieties grown in Umbria may be used.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

Trasimeno white wines are of the highest quality because they are obtained from grapes with excellent ripeness indexes, both in terms of acidity and sugar content. Reds, on the other hand, have an important and balanced sensory profile, enriched by spicy aromas blended with floral-fruity components. The sparkling wines and vin santo are also excellent. Within the specification it is possible to trace the specific organoleptic characteristics of each type.


Grape production area

The production area is located along the shores of Lake Trasimeno, in Umbria


Specificity and historical notes

The first historical trace of viticulture in the Trasimeno area is kept in the Tabula Cortonensis, an Etruscan document found in Cortona.
