Cerveteri

"Cerveteri" is a Protected Designation of Origin that includes white, red and rosé wines, in the following types: White, Medium Sweet White, Sparkling White, Red, Medium Sweet Red, Rosé, Sparkling Rosé, Trebbiano and Procanico.


Grapes

Cerveteri Bianco is produced with a minimum of 50% of Trebbiano Toscano grapes, combined with Malvasia di Candia (maximum 35%) and any other white grapes (maximum 15%), suitable for cultivation in Lazio. In the case of Rosso, on the other hand, the base is obtained from vineyards made up of at least 60% Sangiovese and Montepulciano (used together, but each with a share of not less than 25%), plus Merlot (maximum 35%) and other red grapes. Finally, at least 85% of the wines with the Trebbiano indication must be obtained from the relevant vine variety.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The White, in all types (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 11% vol. ), is straw yellow in color, accompanied by a lively foam and evanescent in the variant Sparkling. The aroma is pleasant and delicate, more vinous in the basic variant, fruity in the mesdium sweet white. The taste ranges from dry to sweet, up to biting. The red wine color is ruby, with variable intensity. The aroma is characteristic and vinous, with a dry, harmonious and full-bodied flavour. In the dry red version, or medium sweet and velvety in the sweet red version. In the rosé, on the other hand, the shade has different shades of pink, the smell is delicate and pleasant, with a fine and harmonious taste. Finally, Trebbiano (or Procanico) has a straw yellow aspect, a pleasant, delicate and fruity aroma and a dry, full-bodied and velvety flavour.


Grape production area

The production area is located in western Lazio, along the coast, almost entirely in the province of Rome.


Specificity and historical notes

Since Etruscan times, wine production has played a central role in the development of the Cerveteri area. Many Latin georgic poets, such as Marziale, mention the wine of this area as particularly appreciated.
