Terre Lariane

The Protected Geographical Indication "Terre Lariane" includes the following types of wines: White (also in the variants Sparkling and Passito), Red (also Sparkling, Passito and Novello) and Rosé (also Sparkling and Novello), in addition to some types with the specification of the grape.


Grapes

Terre Lariane" wines must be obtained from vines suitable for cultivation in Lombardy. The indication of the vine is reserved for the production of at least 85% of specific grapes. The remaining 15% can be produced from grape varieties of similar colour, suitable for cultivation in Lombardy.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The White has a straw yellow colour, combined with a fine, floral, mineral perfume and a typical, dry and savoury taste. The Rosso type is ruby red in colour and exudes an intense fruity and spicy perfume, with a savoury, fresh and typical flavour. The Rosato version, on the other hand, has a cherry pink colour, with a fine, floral aroma and a typical, characteristic, dry taste. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 10.50% vol. for White and Sparkling wine, 11% vol. for Red, Novello and Rosé wine.


Grape production area

The defined geographical area includes the territory of the Lario, the northern bank of the Ceresio, the hills that embrace the Brianza and the morainic lakes and the Olgiatese, between the provinces of Lecco and Como.


Specificity and historical notes

Strabone, in his work "Geography" of the first century BC, described as unforgettable the wine produced in the part of Italy above Verona and Como, the Reti's wine.
