Monti Lessini

"Monti Lessini" is a protected designation of origin that identifies four varieties of white and red wine: Bianco, Durello, Durello passito and Pinot nero.


Grapes

"Monti Lessini" White must be produced using grapes that come half from the Chardonnay vine and the other half from the Durella, Garganega, Pinot bianco, Pinot nero, Pinot grigio and Sauvignon vines, used alone or in combination. The Durello, also in the Passito variant, starts from an 85% of Durella vine, together with Garganega, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Pinot Nero (alone or together, up to a maximum of 15%). The same applies to Pinot Noir, for which 85% of the grapes from the Pinot Noir vine are required, and for the remaining portion, the use of other similar berry varieties suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Verona and Vicenza is allowed.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (11.5% vol.) is characterized by a straw yellow aspect, more or less intense, and by a pleasant smell that is accompanied by a fresh, savory and harmonious taste. The same tonality also applies to Durello (10.5% vol.), which has a characteristic and delicately fruity aroma and a dry, full-bodied flavour, sometimes lively and more or less sweet. In the Passito version (14.5% vol.), the color becomes golden, associated with a characteristic smell, intense and fruity and a velvety taste, harmonious and full-bodied, which can be sweet or sweet. Finally, the Pinot Noir (12.5% vol.) differs in its ruby red aspect, embellished with garnet reflections; the aroma is delicate, pleasant and characteristic; the taste is dry, full and pleasantly bitterish.


Grape production area

The production area covers the hilly part of the Lessini Mountains, straddling the provinces of Verona and Vicenza.


Specificity and historical notes

The "Durella" vine, which strongly characterizes the Monti Lessini denomination, is derived from the "Durasena", already mentioned in Statutes of Costozza of 1290.
