Riviera del Brenta

The Protected Designation of Origin "Riviera del Brenta" includes different types of wine, some without specifications, such as white (also produced in the sparkling version), red (also Novello), rosé and sparkling wine. Then there are the wines with the following grape varieties: Merlot (also Riserva), Cabernet, Raboso (also Riserva), Refoscolo dal Pediuncolo rosso (also RIserva), Pinot bianco (also Spumante and Frizzante), Pinot grigio, Chardonnay (also Spumante and Frizzante) and Tai.


Grapes

The white "Riviera del Brenta" are obtained from grapes coming from vineyards composed, for at least 50%, of Tocai Friulano. In the case of red wines, the same 50% quota is assigned to the Merlot grape variety. In sparkling wine, on the other hand, 60% (minimum) of Chardonnay is required. In all types, in addition, to complete the missing percentages, is allowed to use other similar berry varieties, non-aromatic, included among those used to produce the variants of the single-variety designation. In wines with an indication of grape variety, in fact, this must represent at least 85% of the ampelographic base.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wines, all of a straw-yellow colour, sometimes enriched by golden or greenish reflections, are fresh and harmonious, with a fruity, delicate and winy aroma and a dry to soft flavour. Red wines, on the other hand, are very much influenced by the prevailing vines (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon), which give them an intense colour and a good sugar content. For the specific organoleptic characteristics of each type, it is advisable to consult the regulations.


Grape production area

The production area covers a large flat area located in the provinces of Venice and Padua and characterized by the presence of the river Brenta.


Specificity and historical notes

The ancient wine-growing tradition of the Brenta Valley has its origins in the Paleo-Venetian civilization. Its structure and organization, however, is due to the so-called Roman Farmers' Soldiers.
