Villamagna

The "Villamagna" Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) only includes one type of red wine, also produced in the "Riserva" version.


Grapes

The Red Villamagna, both in the basic version and in the reserve version, is made up of at least 95% Montepulciano grapes; other red grapes, suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, may also be added, up to a maximum of 5%.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The Villamagna, in all its variants, has an intense ruby red color, which tends to garnet aging, the smell is fruity, intense, sometimes spicy, the flavor is full, dry and harmonious. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 13% vol. in the basic version, while it rises to 13.5% vol. in the Riserva version.


Grape production area

The production area of "Villamagna" is hilly, characterised by the presence of soils with a sandy-clay structure, which are generally loose.


Specificity and historical notes

The winemaking tradition, in the area of "Villamagna", is evidenced by the writings of Polybius, a Greek historian who lived between 205 and 123 BC. The link with the territory is therefore profound and well rooted. The appropriate pedology, the favorable climate and the ancient tradition combine to make the "Villamagna" a product of high quality food and wine.
