Bonarda dell’Oltrepò Pavese

The Protected Designation of Origin "Bonarda dell'Oltrepò Pavese" includes two types of wine, the base and the sparkling wine.


Grapes

Both the base and the sparkling wine are composed of 85% to 100% Croatina and up to a maximum of 15% Barbera, Ughetta and Uva Rare, present absolute or combined.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The base wine (12% vol.) has an intense ruby red colour, the aroma is intense and pleasant, the taste is dry, sweet, sometimes lively and slightly tannic. The sparkling version (vol. 11%), on the other hand, has a lively and evanescent foam, has an intense ruby red colour, an intense and pleasant aroma, a dry or sweet or medium sweet flavour, slightly tannic and fresh.


Grape production area

The cultivation of "Bonarda dell'Oltrepò Pavese" takes place in a hilly area, characterized by a very variable geology that determines a very varied pedology.


Specificity and historical notes

The wine-growing tradition in the area of the "Bonarda dell'Oltrepò Pavese" is testified by archaeological finds dating back to prehistoric times. It is no coincidence that since the time of Strabone, the Oltrepò Pavese has been considered the home of high quality wines. And it is Strabone who attributes to the people of this area the merit of having invented the barrel.
