Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Grigio

The "Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Grigio", protected designation of origin, is a white wine, also produced in the sparkling variant.

Grapes

The "Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Grigio" is made from grapes that come from vines composed, for at least 85%, of Pinot Grigio, which may be joined by other white grapes, non-aromatic, suitable for cultivation in Lombardy.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The "Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Grigio" wines are characterized by a straw-yellow hue, with variable intensity, which can turn to a slightly coppered yellow. The aroma is characteristic and fruity, while on the palate they are fresh, savoury and pleasing. In the Sparkling variant there is a greater liveliness of taste, also underlined by the presence of an evanescent froth. In both versions the alcohol content is 11% vol.

Grape production area

The production area of the designation is in the centre of the Pianura Padana basin and its boundaries are partially delineated by the Alpine and Apennine chains. In general, the landscape is pre-Apennine, mainly hilly.

Specificity and historical notes

The viticulture of the Oltrepò is ancient and renowned, so much so that it has earned numerous literary quotations over the centuries. Further evidence of these roots can also be considered the discovery of a vine shoot of prehistoric times near Casteggio.
