Riviera del Garda Classico

The Protected Designation of Origin "Riviera del Garda bresciano", also marketed as "Garda bresciano", includes the following types of wines: White, Red, Rosso novello, Chiaretto, Rosato (or Rosè) and Groppello.

Grapes

The white "Riviera del Garda bresciano" is vinified in purity, using exclusively the grapes of Riesling italico and/or Riesling renano vines. For Rosso and Rosato, on the other hand, the ample composition required is more complex: between 30% and 60% of Groppello (in the Gentile, S. Stefano and Mocasina types), between 10% and 25% of Sangiovese, between 5% and 30% of Marzemino, between 10% and 20% of Barbera. To these quotas is added a possible 10% (maximum) of other vines suitable for cultivation in Lombardy. Finally, the Groppello variant is made with a minimum 85% of grapes from the homonymous vine, possibly combined with that of other suitable vines (maximum 15%).

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The different types of "Riviera del Garda bresciano" wines have absolutely unique characteristics, which are described in detail in the specification. The flagship of the denomination is the Groppello variant. It is a delicate red wine, with a brilliant, spicy colour and fruity notes, velvety and pleasant, with a slightly bitterish base.

Grape production area

The "Riviera del Garda" identifies an area of production that involves the morainic hills between Salò, Desenzano and the Chiese river.

Specificity and historical notes

The area of the "Riviera del Garda", from the historical and social point of view, has always been clearly distinguished from other areas of Lake Garda, so much so that its name has ended up characterizing all the products that originated there.
