Alto Livenza

The Protected Geographical Indication "Alto Livenza"; includes three types of wine: white (also in the sparkling type), red (also sparkling and novello), and rosé (also sparkling).


Grapes

The wines with a Typical Geographical Indication "Alto Livenza", with an indication of the vine variety, must be obtained for at least 85% from grapes coming from the corresponding vineyards, suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Treviso and Pordenone respectively. Grapes of other varieties, also suitable for cultivation in the respective provinces of Treviso and Pordenone, may be added, either alone or together, up to a maximum of 15%.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white and sparkling white "Alto Livenza"; PGI wines have a colour that varies from light yellow with greenish reflections to deep yellow. They give off complex aromas and have an excellent flavour, with a fresh and lively finish. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume shall be 9,00% vol. The red and sparkling red varieties have a ruby colour with purplish reflections; the scents are very complex, with notes of red fruits and nuances of vanilla. The taste is of excellent sapidity, with a structure characterized by softness and roundness, supported by a sweet but not aggressive tannicity. The minimum alcoholic strength shall be 9,50 % vol. The rosé and sparkling rosé have a minimum alcoholic strength of 9,00 % vol. , while the new variety has an alcoholic strength of 11% vol.


Grape production area

The production area is divided between Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, north of the Livenza River. An area characterized by a mild climate, due to the presence of karst and dolomitic reliefs and that of the Adriatic Sea.


Specificity and historical notes

The fame of the geographical indication "Alto Livenza" testifies the link of these wines with the territory of production that has allowed them to be renowned both in the local market and in some European countries such as Germany and England.
