Val di Neto
The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Val di Neto" includes white wines (also in the Sparkling and Passito typologies), red wines (also in the Sparkling, Passito and Novello typologies), rose wines (also in the Sparkling typologies) and productions with the specification of the vine.
Grapes
Wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Val di Neto" must be obtained from vines suitable for cultivation in Calabria. The indication mono-varietal is reserved for wines composed of at least 85% of the corresponding vine, while for the remaining portion can be used others, provided they are suitable for cultivation in the region.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
The white wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 10.50% vol.) has a pale straw yellow colour, combined with a pleasant, characteristic aroma and a fresh, harmonious taste. Bianco passito (15% vol.) is distinguished by its intense straw yellow colour and sweet and delicate flavour. The Rosso (11.50% vol.) has a more or less intense tonality and exudes a vinous and characteristic perfume, with a harmonious and typical flavour. In the Rosso passito version (15% vol.) a deep red colour emerges; the aroma is intense and pleasant; the taste is sweet, warm and harmonious. Rosso novello (11% vol.), on the other hand, has an intense red colour, with a complex and fruity bouquet and a soft and harmonious flavour. Finally, the rosé (10.50% vol.) is pink in colour, more or less intense, with a fine, characteristic aroma and a harmonious, pleasant flavour.
Grape production area
The production area includes the central and south-eastern part of the province of Crotone, which faces for the most part the Ionian Sea.
Specificity and historical notes
The cultivation of the vine and the production of wine in the area date back to the time of "Kroton", the city of Magna Graecia founded by the Achaeans.
