Asti

The Protected Designation of Origin "Asti" is reserved for the following varieties of wine: Asti Spumante, Asti Spumante Metodo Classico, Moscato d'Asti and Moscato d'Asti vendemmia tardiva. In addition, there are also three subzones: Canelli, Santa Vittoria d'Alba and Strevi.


Grapes

The "Asti" wines are produced in purity, using only grapes from the white Moscato grape variety.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The "Asti" Spumante wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 11.5% vol.) has a colour between straw yellow and light golden, with a fine and persistent foam, a characteristic and delicate aroma and an aromatic, sweet and balanced flavour. Asti Spumante Metodo Classico (12% vol.) has a colour, flavour and foam similar to the previous one but with a more pronounced aroma. Moscato d'Asti (11% vol.) is straw yellow, with a characteristic and fragrant aroma of Moscato and a sweet, aromatic and sometimes lively flavour. Finally, the Moscato d'Asti late harvest (11% vol.) is golden yellow; the aroma is characteristic of dried grapes, fruity, very intense and with spicy notes; the taste is sweet, harmonious and velvety, with hints reminiscent of honeycomb.


Grape production area

"Asti" wines are produced in the territory of 52 municipalities of Piemonte, divided between the provinces of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo.


Specificity and historical notes

The production area of "Asti" wines is characterized by important differences in the morphology of the soil: calcareous, clayey, sandy. These variations are clearly highlighted in the olfactory nuances that the different wines reflect.
