The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) "Aversa" includes two types of wines: Asprinio and Asprinio Spumante.
Grapes
The basic version of "Asprinio" is composed of at least 85% Asprinio grapes; grapes from similarly coloured berry varieties can also be used to produce it, up to a maximum of 15%. The Spumante variant, on the other hand, is produced in purity, with 100% Asprinio grapes.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
The "Asprinio" wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 10.5% vol.) has a more or less intense straw yellow colour, with an intense fruity bouquet and a dry, fresh and characteristic flavour. The Spumante (11% vol.), on the other hand, is enriched by a fine and persistent froth; the colour is straw yellow, more or less intense, accompanied by a fine and fragrant perfume and by a dry, fresh and characteristic flavour.
Grape production area
The production area is located on a geologically homogeneous plain, located north of the Phlegraean Fields, in a portion of land formerly known as the "Regi Lagni", in the provinces of Caserta and Napoli.
Specificity and historical notes
The millenary tradition of wine growing, the geology linked to the presence of the nearby Phlegraean fields and volcano Vesuvio, and the flat position with southern exposure of the vineyards make the Aversa a product of high quality and value.
