Two types of wine belong to the Protected Designation of Origin "Barco Reale di Carmignano": basic and rosé "Barco Reale di Carmignano".
Grapes
"Barco Reale di Carmignano" wines, both basic and rosé, are composed of at least 50% Sangiovese grapes, combined with 20% Canaiolo nero, between 10% and 20% Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (absolute or combined) and finally a maximum of 10% Trebbiano toscano, Canaiolo bianco and Malvasia (absolute or combined). If necessary, red grapes may also be used to produce the wine, up to a maximum of 10%.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
The basic version (vol. 11%) has a lively and brilliant ruby red colour, the aroma is vinous with an intense and fruity perfume, the taste is dry, savoury, fresh, full and harmonious. The rosé (vol. 11%), on the other hand, has a more or less intense rosé colour with ruby reflections, a fruity, winy, more or less intense aroma, and a dry, fresh, pleasantly acidic and harmonious flavour.
Grape production area
The production area is medium hilly, and falls within the municipalities of Carmignano and Poggio a Caiano in the province of Prato. It has good exposure and soils with a highly iridescent composition.
Specificity and historical notes
The "Barco Reale di Carmignano" wines have been known since the '300 for their characteristics of high quality, this is combined with particular micro-environmental and agronomic conditions, which are compared to other products in Toscana.
