Camarro

The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Camarro" includes the following wines: white, also in the sparkling type; red, also in the sparkling and new type; rosé, also in the sparkling type.

Grapes

The wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Camarro" must be obtained from grapes from vineyards consisting of one or more vines, berry color corresponding, suitable for cultivation in the region of Sicilia. The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Camarro" with the specification of one of the vines Ansonica and Sangiovese is reserved for wines made from grapes from vineyards consisting of at least 85% of the corresponding vines. Grapes from similarly coloured grape varieties, suitable for cultivation in the region of Sicilia up to a maximum of 15%, may be used to produce the wine.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wines with the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Camarro" have a straw yellow colour, with a fruity aroma and a dry to sweet, typical, savoury flavour. The red version, on the other hand, has a ruby red colour, a complex, fruity bouquet and a dry to sweet, harmonious, typical flavour. Finally, the rosé has a pinkish cherry colour, a persistent aroma and a dry to sweet taste. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 10.50% vol. for white and rosé, 11.00% vol. for red. The new and sparkling varieties may have a minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 11,00% vol. and 9,00% vol. respectively.

Grape production area

The production area includes the entire administrative territory of the municipality of Partanna, in the province of Trapani.

Specificity and historical notes

The defined territory of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) is mainly hilly, which helps to create an environment that is adequately ventilated, bright and with a soil that is naturally drained of waste water, particularly suited to the cultivation of vines.the millenary wine-growing history of this territory, from the Hellenistic and Roman period to the present day, is fundamental proof of the close connection between human intervention and the specific characteristics of the wines of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Camarro".
