Colli Trevigiani

The Protected Geographical Indication "Colli Trevigiani" includes three types of wine: White (also in the sparkling type), Red (also sparkling and novello) and Rosé (also sparkling).

Grapes

"Colli Trevigiani" PGI wines must be obtained from grapes coming from vineyards composed, within the company, of one or more vines suitable for cultivation in the province of Treviso. A minimum quota of 85% is foreseen for the specification of one of the vines: Bianchetta Trevigiana, Incrocio Manzoni, Malvasia, Muller Thurgau, Pinot Bianco, Glera, Riesling Renano, Riesling Italico, Sauvignon, Traminer, Verdiso, Verduzzo, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Manzoni bianco, Malbech, Marzemino, Merlot, Pinot nero, Raboso, Refosco, Wildbacher, Tai, Boschera, Carmenère, Syrah, Marzemina bianca, Rebo, Petit Verdot, Glera lunga, Manzoni rosa and Manzoni moscato. In competition, the grapes of the vines suitable for cultivation in the province of Treviso may be used, up to a maximum of 15%.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The White, also sparkling, has a colour ranging from light yellow to straw yellow, with greenish reflections; on the nose there are floral notes that combine with a savoury and persistent taste; the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 9.00% vol. The Rosso and Novello types, even when sparkling, are characterized, instead, by a color ranging from pale red to ruby, sometimes garnet; the scent is fruity or herbaceous, with a full taste, tannic, savory; the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 9.50% vol., while for Rosato is 9.00% vol.

Grape production area

The production area consists of a series of hills protected to the north by the pre-alpine chain. To the south, however, the area enjoys the mild temperatures of the Venice lagoon, which is only 40 km away.

Specificity and historical notes

In 1876, in Conegliano, the first School of Viticulture and Oenology in Italy was born. In 1923, the Experimental Station of Viticulture and Oenology developed from this, and is still today a reference point for research and viticultural experimentation for the Ministry of Agriculture.
