Fara

"Fara" red wines, identified by the homonymous Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), are produced both in the basic version and in the Riserva version.

Grapes

"Fara"Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) wines must be produced according to a specific indication of ampelographic composition. The vineyards must consist of between 50% and 70% of Nebbiolo (Spanna), a further 30% to 50% of Vespolina and a residual 10% of other red grapes and non-aromatic, suitable for cultivation in Piemonte.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The colour of "Fara" wine is ruby red. On the nose it releases a fine and pleasant perfume and on the palate it is dry, sapid and harmonious. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 12% vol. In the Riserva variant, the colour is enriched with light garnet reflections, while the aroma acquires characteristic notes. The taste, on the other hand, remains dry, savoury and harmonious. Finally, the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is slightly higher, equal to 12.5% vol.

Grape production area

The production area is divided between the municipalities of Fara and Briona. From the territorial point of view, there is an alternation of morainic plateaus and hillsides.

Specificity and historical notes

"Fara"'s winemaking tradition has millenary roots. The first recognition is due to Pliny the Elder, who mentions the wines of this region in the first century BC. Written testimonies, moreover, can be found in numerous diaries of wine growers.
