Specificity and historical notes

The winemaking tradition of the province of Palermo dates back to ancient Greece: in the nearby city of Himera were found several finds related to the production, transport and consumption of wine. The most recent period of the "Ducea di Fontanarossa" from which the name of the present PGI derives, is one of the pinnacles of the history of wine in this area.
