Friuli Isonzo o Isonzo del Friuli

The Protected Designation of Origin "Friuli Isonzo" or "Isonzo del Friuli" includes different types of wine. Some are available in the basic versions: white, red, rosé (all three with an attached sparkling variant) and late harvest. Others have indications of grape variety: Chardonnay, Malvasia, Moscato giallo, Pinot bianco, Pinot grigio, Riesling Italico, Riesling, Sauvignon, Friulano, Traminer aromatico, Verduzzo friulano, Chardonnay spumante, Moscato giallo spumante, Pinot spumante, Verduzzo friulano spumante, Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Franconia, Moscato rosa, Pignolo, Pinot nero, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Schioppettino, Rosso spumante and Moscato rosa spumante.


Grapes

All wines are produced exclusively with the correspondent grapes. The exceptions are Chardonnay, in which an addition of Pinot Noir (maximum 15%) is allowed, and Cabernet, for which both Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are used. The same grapes used exclusively for wines with are also the basis for the generic ones, red, white and rosé, for which no percentage of composition is established but only the impossibility to use Moscato Giallo (in whites) and Moscato Rosa (in reds and rosés) is foreseen. Finally, the late harvest variant is made with Friulano, Sauvignon, Verduzzo friulano, Pinot bianco, Chardonnay and Malvasia istriana grapes, either alone or in combination.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

Friuli Isonzo are wines with a modest acidity content, with consistent aromas and a perfectly balanced taste. In the whites we find a straw-yellow colour, accompanied by floral and fruity aromas and a structured flavour, with good balance and considerable complexity. The reds are also fresh and fruity, with a ruby colour and violet shades. The aromas are intense and, with ageing, tend to be spicy. The product specification then establish all the organoleptic characteristics that can be associated with each wine.


Grape production area

The production area coincides with a flat region in the province of Gorizia, in eastern Friuli Venezia Giulia.


Specificity and historical notes

The turning point for Friulian viticulture was in 1970, when the company moved from a purely local production to an outward marketing ambition.
