Lison

The Protected Designation of Origin "Lison" (DOCG) is reserved for wines of the following types: Lison and Lison Classico.


Grapes

These wines must be produced with at least 85% of the grapes coming from Tai vines. For the remaining part, other grape varieties of the same colour and suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Venezia, Treviso and Pordenone may be used.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

Both types of Lison are presented with a straw-yellow hue, the intensity of which can be variable and sometimes accompanied by reflections ranging from greenish to golden. It is a wine with a characteristic and pleasant aroma, with floral and fresh fruit notes, combined with a dry and velvety taste, which can also have a hint of wood. The minimum alcohol content is 12% vol., which rises to 12.50% vol. for the Classico variant.


Grape production area

The area of production of Lison wines is divided between the provinces of Venezia, Treviso and Pordenone. The area, which is located a few kilometers from the Venetian coast, is characterized by a temperate climate with good exposure to the winds. The soil is also rich in minerals, especially potassium, calcium and magnesium.


Specificity and historical notes

Although dating back to Roman times, the cultivation of vines in the production area of Lison owes its success and development to two factors: the settlement of Benedictine monks and the presence of the Republic of Venezia. The former had the merit of introducing a rational viticulture, the latter, with its financial resources, allowed the commercial growth of the territory.
