Parrina

"Parrina" is a Protected Designation of Origin that identifies the wines red, red Riserva, rosè, Sangiovese, Sangiovese Riserva, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Bianco, Vermentino, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Vin Santo.


Grapes

The red and rosè wines are produced using grapes from vineyards composed of 70% Sangiovese and the remainder from other black grapes, suitable for cultivation in Toscana (except Aleatico). For white and Vin Santo, on the other hand, Trebbiano Toscano (between 10% and 30%), Ansonica (from 30% to 50%), Vermentino (from 20% to 40%), Chardonnay and Sauvignon (20%, alone or in combination) and other white grapes grown in Tuscany (except Moscato Bianco) are used. Finally, all the single-variety productions require 85% of grapes from the reference vine, together with others of similar colour (always with the exception of Moscato Bianco and Aleatico).


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Parrina Rosso" (11.5% vol.) is a wine with a pleasant ruby colour, which can be more or less intense; its aroma is delicate and pleasant and is combined with a dry, harmonious and velvety flavour. On the other hand, in the white wine (11.5% vol.) the tonality is straw yellow and slightly golden, with a vinous, fine, fragrant and persistent aroma and a dry but velvety flavour, enhanced by a bitterish aftertaste. The appearance of the rosé (11% vol.), on the other hand, is brilliant and is associated with a delicate and extremely elegant aroma and a dry, round, fresh and harmonious flavour. Vin Santo (16% vol.) has a golden yellow to intense amber colour with a velvety and round flavour.


Grape production area

The “Parrina” wines are born in a very small foothill territory, which corresponds to the northeastern part of the town of “Orbetello”.


Specificity and historical notes

The “Parrina” wine, from its origins, has developed a strong bond with the territory and its uses and customs. Not surprisingly, for a long time, it was a wine consumed mainly in inns and taverns in the production area, where it was sold mostly in bulk.
