Terre di Pisa

The Protected Designation of Origin "Terre di Pisa" includes two types of red wine: the basic version and Sangiovese.


Grapes

For the production of "Terre di Pisa" red is required the use of grapes from vineyards consisting of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, which alone or together must account for at least 70% of the total. The remaining share, not exceeding 30%, may consist of other red grapes, provided that they are suitable for cultivation in Toscana. The Sangiovese variant is different, produced almost in purity (minimum 95%) from grapes of the same name, together with those of other red grapes, identified as above.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Terre di Pisa" red is a wine whose color can range from ruby to garnet, combined with a fine and characteristic smell and a dry and harmonious flavor, the minimum alcohol content is 12.5% vol. Same organoleptic characteristics can be found in "Terre di Pisa" Sangiovese, which differs in the right tannic character that expresses to the palate. In general, these are wines with a remarkable olfactory and gustatory balance, whose profile is further enriched with aging.


Grape production area

The production area covers the territory of sixteen municipalities in the province of Pisa and characterized by a mild climate, extremely favorable to viticulture.


Specificity and historical notes

The "Pisa" wine history is ancient and noble. Techniques and cultivations have been handed down over the centuries, allowing the conservation of an immense heritage, further enhanced by the innovations of the modern period.
