Torgiano Rosso Riserva
The "Torgiano Rosso Riserva" is a Protected Designation of Origin that identifies a particular type of Umbrian red wine.
Grapes
The production of "Torgiano Rosso Riserva" is mainly based on grapes from the Sangiovese vine, with a share that can vary between 70% and 100%. In addition, up to a maximum of 30% of the grapes used to make the wine are other non-aromatic red grapes suitable for cultivation in Umbria.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
The "Torgiano Rosso Riserva" is a wine that can boast an excellent structure. The appearance is clear and brilliant, with a characteristic ruby color. The aroma is vinous and delicate, while on the palate it has the right body, dry and harmonious. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 12,50% vol.
Grape production area
The production area is extremely localized, this particular red wine reserve, in fact, is made only and exclusively in the homonymous Umbrian town, in the province of Perugia. A territory with gentle hilly profiles and a structured climate with the right alternations: dry and dry in summer, temperate in June and September, cold and humid in winter.
Specificity and historical notes
In 1968, Torgiano's long winemaking tradition, which has its roots in Roman times, was rightly rewarded. The Torgiano Rosso Riserva, in fact, became the first Umbrian wine to boast the recognition DOC, then turned into DOCG. In the following years, the production has experienced a significant growth, thanks to the planting of new vineyards and the birth of new companies.
