Bolgheri Sassicaia

The Protected Designation of Origin "Bolgheri Sassicaia" corresponds to a specific and unique type of red wine, produced according to precise indications.


Grapes

The red wine "Bolgheri Sassicaia" is composed of at least 80% grapes from Cabernet Sauvignon, which may be added to other red grapes, up to a maximum of 20%.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The red wine has an intense ruby colour, sometimes garnet, combined with a rich and elegant vinous aroma and a dry, full, robust and harmonious flavour, with an elegant structure. The minimum alcohol content is 12% vol.


Grape production area

The production area of "Bolgheri Sassicaia" is limited to the municipality of Castagneto Carducci in the province of Livorno. The soils are shallow, clayey-loamy in texture, and vary from scarcely to very calcareous.


Specificity and historical notes

The winemaking tradition of "Bolgheri Sassicaia" dates back to 1800, the century during which it was developed and perfected. The particular geographical position and the complex pedology make "Bolgheri Sassicaia" a product of undoubted quality and value.
