Colli Albani

"Colli Albani" is a Protected Designation of Origin that includes the homonymous white wine, also produced in the types Novello, Spumante and Superiore.

Grapes

The production of Colli Albani wines is the result of the composition of grapes from several varieties, according to a careful balance. The largest share (maximum 60%) is represented by the white Malvasia of Candia, then there are the Trebbiano Toscano, the Trebbiano Giallo and the Trebbiano of Soave that, together or alone, can represent from 25% to 50% of the total. A further share, between 5% and 45%, is of Malvasia puntinata. Finally, up to a maximum of 10%, there are also other white grapes, suitable for cultivation in Lazio.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

Colli Albani Bianco (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 10.5% vol.), including Novello and Spumante, has a straw yellow colour, ranging from the lightest to the darkest shades. The aroma is vinous and delicate, accompanied by a characteristic fruity taste, ranging from dry to sweet, medium sweet and sweet. The Superiore variant has the same organoleptic characteristics but has a lighter colour and an alcohol content of 11.5% vol.

Grape production area

The production area is located in the central part of Lazio, in the province of Rome, on the western part of the Colli Albani. It is a geological area of volcanic formation, a peculiarity that influences the entire morphology and composition of the soils.

Specificity and historical notes

The wine-growing success of the Colli Albani area is undoubtedly linked to the Roman era. In this area there were many Roman villas, each with its own spaces dedicated to viticulture. And the wines of Albano are mentioned many times in the classic texts, starting with Orazio.
