Colli Euganei Fior d’Arancio o Fior d’Arancio Colli Euganei

"Colli Euganei Fior d'Arancio" or "Fior d'Arancio Colli Euganei" is a Protected Designation of Origin (DOCG) that includes three types of wine: Base, Spumante and Passito.

Grapes

The production of all the wines included in this denomination must take place using, for at least 95%, grapes coming from the yellow Moscato vine. The remaining 5% can be obtained from other aromatic varieties of similar colour, provided they are suitable for production in the province of Padova.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The basic version of Colli Euganei Fior d'Arancio (10.50% vol.) is straw yellow in colour, the intensity of which may vary slightly; its aroma is aromatic and characteristic; its flavour is intense and ranges from dry to sweet. The same characteristics can also be found in the Spumante variant, which is embellished by a foam with variable persistence. The Passito variant, on the other hand, has a golden yellow hue, sometimes even amber; the aroma is characteristic, complex and intense, while the taste is sweet, aromatic and persistent; the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 15.50% vol. All the Colli Euganei wines are enriched with floral and fruit aromas.

Grape production area

The production area is characterized by the presence of the Euganean Hills and is located all within the province of Padova.

Specificity and historical notes

The first traces of the production and consumption of wine in the area of the Euganean Hills date back to the pre-Roman civilization (VII - VI century BC). Over the centuries, then, viticulture has become more and more refined, to the point of creating wines known outside Italy and also enhanced by the "Wine Route Euganean Hills".
