Romagna
"Romagna" is a Protected Designation of Origin that identifies wines produced with indication of grape variety or additional geographical mention: Albana, Cagnina, Pagadebit, Pagadebit Bertinoro, Sangiovese and Trebbiano. Novello, Superiore, Riserva, sparkling and Spumante wines are also provided. The exhaustive list of all productions is available in the product specification.
Grapes
The vines used for the production vary according to the type. In the case of Trebbiano, at least 85% of the homonymous vine is required. The same applies to Sangiovese, with the percentage rising to 95% when a geographical mention is also included on the label. The 95% is also the required share of Albana grape for the vinification of the Spumante of the same name. For Cagnina, on the other hand, a minimum 85% of Terrano is used, while for Pagadebit and Pagadebit Bertinoro an 85% of white Bombino is used. Finally, in all types, within the limits of the missing quotas, it is also possible to use other similar berry varieties, suitable for cultivation in Emilia Romagna.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
The breadth and diversity of the land on which the vines that give life to the "Romagna" wines are grown means that the latter have rather varied organoleptic characteristics. A ductility that is evident especially in Sangiovese wines, which fully express the concept of interaction between grape and environment. For a precise indication of the peculiarities of each wine, it is therefore advisable to consult the product specification.
Grape production area
The area of production of the "Romagna" wines can be easily divided into two morphological areas: hilly and pre-hilly.
Specificity and historical notes
Historically, from the wine point of view, "Romagna" has always distinguished itself for its abundant production and with numerous elements of excellence. Starting from the 70s, then, to this natural vocation a strong improvement was added in terms of agronomic and enological techniques.
