Veneto IGT

The protected geographical indication "Veneto" identifies 3 types of wine: white (also sparkling and passito), red (also sparkling, passito and new) and rosé (also sparkling).


Grapes

The vines used for the production of Veneto Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) wines must be suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Belluno, Padova, Rovigo, Treviso, Venizia, Verona and Vicenza. The specification of one or two varieties is reserved for wines produced, for at least 85%, by the corresponding variety and, for a maximum of 15%, by another variety suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Belluno, Padova, Rovigo, Treviso, Venezia, Verona, Vicenza. The grapes of the Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon and Carmenère vines may be used alone or together to produce Cabernet wine. The specification is also allowed for the sparkling type and, only for the red berry, for the novello type.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The wines of the Veneto Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) are, in the different types, balanced, with reference to the chemical and physical framework, while the taste and smell are the main characteristics typical of the vines. In the White, White Sparkling (also with reference to the name of the vine), Rosé, Rosé Sparkling (also with reference to the name of the vine) versions, the minimum total alcholic strength by volume is 9. 00% vol. For the types Red, Red Sparkling (also with reference to the name of the vine) the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 9. 50% vol., while for the Novello (also with reference to the name of the vine), the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 11. 00% vol.


Grape production area

The production area includes the territory of Veneto.


Specificity and historical notes

Although the wild vine was present in Veneto already many centuries before Christ, the first evidence of winemaking in the area dates back to the seventh century BC. by the Etruscan-Rhaetian populations.
